Description
Jaiphal or Nutmeg is indigenous to Indonesia. It is a fruit of an evergreen tree and its seeds are used as a spice. Nutmeg spice is oval, an inch long, slightly wrinkled, dark brown on the outside, and light brown on the inside. It has a bitter, sweet, and spicy taste with a camphor-like aroma. Though similar to Javitri, it is stronger than it in flavour. Nutmeg is used in a lot of sweet as well as savoury dishes. It is predominantly used in Mughlai Cuisine and also goes well with pies, custards, puddings, cookies, and cakes. It complements vegetables like spinach, cabbage, broccoli, beans and works well in soups with tomato, peas, and beans.
